Day 4- Monday

Slept OK feel a bit washed out and have a lack of energy. Swelling has kicked in overnight and moved down to the bridge of my nose, still pretty minimal though. Stepped up the washing by applying a little pressure on the recipient area but only very lightly, using the cup method for pouring water over still. Recipient feels back to normal only a little sore in places and scar seems to feel a little less painful when washing other than one spot on my left hand side where the pesky staple is. Scar is numb above the line but below is totally normal now. This will last around 2 weeks to 6 months before it returns, I am expecting a longer time as my nerves have been cut many times before. Went to the Capilano Suspension bridge took the free bus from Downtown at the waterfront. Wearing a baseball cap in Vancouver is normal and do not feel out of place. So this evening as my grafts were secure in my head and the scabs and crusts have formed I decided to lay carefully on my side to sleep which is my preferred sleeping position.

Day 5- Tuesday

Swelling has gone down in the forehead but still exists in the bridge of my nose. Had a hair cut today by Michelle at the clinic she buzzed the sides and back down to match the top. Due to my previous scarring and shortness of the cut the staples are a little more noticeable and so is the old scarring but it looks much better than before without the geeky hairstyle. Also had my hair washed, Michelle was kind enough to remove the troublesome staple on my left side which was touching a nerve, it was painful coming out but much better once it was done. Had a couple of beers this evening with my meal now I was off the antibiotics.

Day 6- Wednesday

Washing my hair the same as before carefully. Swelling has disappeared completely and recipient area is now very crusty looking forward to soaking that tomorrow and getting the scabs and crusts off. Everything else is pretty much the same. Neck is a little stiff, numbness above scar line, everywhere else is now feeling fine. I get the odd occasional twinge in the scar line. So today I had a test SMP  around 10-15 dots were placed in my OLD scar to see how it reacted. It was a little bit painful some pinched more than others but overall fine.

Day 7- Thursday

Gave the recipient area a good soak under shower head pressure for the first time and washed with the pads of my fingertips, managed to get a good number of scabs and crusts and will do the same again tomorrow. Recipient is quite pink still if I were going back to work to an office job if I wanted to hide it. This is more common with pale skinned patients such as myself, people with darker skin tone have much less problem with lingering pinkness and is usually gone by this time. I expect mine will hang around for another week or more. Very little else to report but feeling much better in myself and have more energy after sleeping better. Sleeping in normal positions now on back and both sides, staples don’t seem to be as much of a nuisance as I remember them, still 1 week more and they can come out.
